I Don’t Mean To Betray Annie Lennox But…..

Annie Lennox

When I was a kid I wanted to be Cyndi Lauper with her orange hair. But then Annie Lennox came along with the video for Sweet Dreams and it was over. I had found my role model. She was the epitome of sexy with her super short orange hair. And wearing a suit, despite it’s masculine identity, it made her so fucking sexy. I loved Annie Lennox. I still love her. But I have to be honest, there are a lot of poseurs crying foul right now over the fact that Annie Lennox was dropped from her record label.

The reason I call these people poseurs is because lets face it, when was the last time anyone went out and bought an Annie Lennox CD? Her new music is cool but it’s a far cry from the Annie that I remember of the ’80’s. She won an Oscar for the soundtrack to The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. She still looks amazing and still has an amazing voice. But still, when was the last time anyone bought her CD’s? It’s been years for me if I am going to be honest.

I don’t mean to betray her, my once idol. But lets not pretend here when it comes to the bottom line. If you are not selling records, what is the company supposed to do? I just hope that this supposed outrage that everyone has over her being dropped from her label pushes them out to by her albums again. She really does have a terrific voice. I hope the next label to pick her up sees massive successes from people buying her music again.

Don’t be poseurs my fellow bloggers. If you want to see her vindicated go out and buy her music.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s necessary to be signed to a label. The way technology has progressed and as eff’d up as the industry is right now, a talented musician like Lennox has plenty of resources to continue doing what she does. I’m hearing of more artists lately “being dropped” from their label, but treating it like the best thing that could have happened to them. They’re finally free to do exactly what they want on their own terms. It’s a lot easier nowadays to get your music direct from the artists themselves.

Or she can just get a reality show on VH1.

That’s a great point. I really only blogged this to highlight some of the poseurs expressing their outrage over the matter. They don’t really care, it;s just something to talk about.

Annie Lennox is extraordinary talent. I have no doubt there will be much more to come.
